The Cotswolds are home to some of the best gardens for snowdrops in the British Isles, so this winter break will be of great appeal not just to ardent galanthophiles but to anyone who enjoys the uplifting sight that says spring is not too far away.
Day 1 FRIDAY We make our way to the historic market town of Cirencester – ‘Capital of the Cotswolds!’ before continuing to Colesbourne Park, where we discover one of the finest displays of snowdrops in the country. Over 350 species are now spread throughout this private garden, as well as hellebores, cyclamen and other winter flowering shrubs. From here,
Day 2 SATURDAY After breakfast we make our way to the charming Cotswold village of Broadway with its pretty High Street lined with horse chestnut trees, with an eclectic mixture of shops and period houses made from the local picturesque honey coloured stone. We continue to Batsford where we can explore the 60-acre Arboretum as thousands of delicate white snowdrops burst through the ground, transforming the landscape into a picture-perfect setting for a seasonal walk. Our circular Cotswold tour continues as we pause in the historic wool town of Stowon-the-Wold with its famous Market Square.
Day 3 SUNDAY Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we make our way down to Painswick Rococo Gardens, which will be resplendent with carpets of beautiful snowdrops. Early afternoon we continue home, arriving in the local area late afternoon.
The Cheltenham Chase is set in 15 acres of landscaped grounds with stunning views over the surrounding countryside at the foot of the Cotswold Hills.
