From our base overlooking the Humber Estuary, we visit the much-loved St Nicholas Christmas Fair in York and explore the sumptuous atmosphere of Castle Howard.
Day 1 We travel north, with suitable refreshment stops, arriving at our hotel overlooking the Humber Estuary late afternoon for our three-night stay.
Day 2 Today we head to the ancient, cobbled streets of York, where the Christmas Market is a festive wonderland of charming wooden stalls filled with potential gifts, seasonal treats and festive decorations. Enjoy mulled wine, hot churros and traditional foods, while the medieval setting, with the stunning York Minster nearby, adds to the enchanting atmosphere. A real treat for all the senses.
Day 3 Today we spend a magical day at Castle Howard, transformed for the festive season. The house is adorned with spectacular decorations, including twinkling lights, festive garlands, and the iconic 25-foot traditional Christmas tree, with over 3000 baubles providing a breathtaking highlight in the Great Hall. Explore beautifully themed rooms, each filled with traditional holiday charm. The theme for 2025 is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, creating a magical atmosphere as the story is told in stately surroundings with theatrical installations and immersive soundscapes.
Day 4 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we make our way homeward, arriving in the local area early evening.
Our Signature Collection three-star hotel is set in 17 acres of landscaped grounds with views of the Humber Bridge. The hotel features a relaxing lounge area, terrace and gym. Bedrooms are equipped with TV, telephone, WiFi, ironing facilities, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel is situated in a sloped landscape and does not have a lift. Although there are some ground floor rooms, there are steps throughout, including seven to reach the restaurant.
