Day 1 WEDNESDAY We set off west, making suitable refreshment stops, and arriving at our hotel during the late afternoon.
Day 2 THURSDAY Today we visit Lanhydrock House and Gardens (NT), a quintessential country house and estate, where we can discover two sides of Victorian life: from the kitchen which offers a thrilling glimpse into life ‘below stairs’, to the luxurious family areas, elegant dining room and spacious bedrooms which reveal the comforts of ‘upstairs’ living. Enjoy a stroll around the extensive gardens and enjoy their year-round colour.
Day 3 FRIDAY This morning, we visit Trelissick Gardens (NT), which is set on its own peninsula, with panoramic views over the Fal estuary. You can explore the meandering paths through the garden, leading to exotic plants and herbaceous borders bursting with colour.
Day 4 SATURDAY After breakfast we visit Bodmin Jail where, on our guided tour, we discover the gripping tales of the Georgian and Victorian penal system. Uncover the chilling realities of crime and punishment from the 18th & 19th century. Later, we continue to pretty Port Isaac. Once a hang-out for notorious Cornish pirates, it is now a fishing village with olde-world charm, and some may also recognise it from the well-known TV series Doc Martin, which was filmed here.
Day 5 SUNDAY Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we commence our journey home, arriving during the late afternoon.
