Join us on a break that takes in the stunning countryside and picturesque villages of the Ribble Valley. Our hotel is the family owned Foxfields Country Hotel that sits amidst 9 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens.
Day 1 MONDAY Departing from the South Coast we journey north to Lancashire, arriving late afternoon in good time for dinner and our 4-night stay
Day 2 TUESDAY Today we have a full-day guided tour of Pendle Hill Country, hearing about the infamous Pendle Witches. We visit Downham, setting for the 1961 film ‘Whistle Down the Wind’ and TV’s ‘Born and Bred’. We call at Barrowford Visitor Centre for a break before heading over to Pendle Hill on our way to Clitheroe for a lunch break. The day continues with a drive through the Britain in Bloom village of Chipping and on into the Hodder Valley. We take a break at the riverside tearooms in Slaidburn, before heading back to the hotel.
Day 3 WEDNESDAY Today, we travel to Bury where we can browse the famous Bury Market – often voted market of the year in Britain’s Favourite Market. You will find over 350 stalls to visit with time to explore Bury at leisure and enjoy lunch. This afternoon we visit Helmshore Mill. At one point, Lancashire supplied one-third of all the world's cotton goods. We enjoy a guided tour where this industrial heritage is brought to life.
Day 4 THURSDAY Our excursion today takes us north to Dewlay Cheesemakers. A family-run award winning artisan producer which has been creating cheese since 1957. We will be taking a guided tour of the creamery and have chance to taste some samples to tantalise your taste buds. Later we travel to Riley Green Marina. We enjoy a relaxing and peaceful cruise along the canal; with afternoon tea served on the way.
Day 5 FRIDAY After breakfast, we leave and begin our journey home.
The Foxfields Country Hotel is situated near the village of Billington in the beautiful Ribble Valley. Leisure Club facilities include heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym. All bedrooms are luxurious fully equipped suites with TV, Wi-FI and tea/coffee making facilities. No lift, although some ground floor rooms are available upon request.
