One of Britain’s favourite holiday destinations since Victorian times, the Isle of Wight has miles of sandy beaches, picturesque scenery, and pretty villages which seem to have stood still in time.
Day 1 FRIDAY We travel down to Portsmouth for the sailing to Fishbourne. Once on the island we have a scenic drive to Sandown and our hotel.
Day 2 SATURDAY We travel along the scenic ‘military’ coastal road of West Wight visiting Mottistone Manor Garden, a magical five-acre Elizabethan Manor Garden. In the afternoon we take the coastal road to reach The Needles, followed by a visit to Yarmouth, a small village with a beautiful harbour and gorgeous little boutique shops.
Day 3 SUNDAY Begin today with a trip back to the golden age of steam on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Settle in for your round-trip journey from Havenstreet in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages for a view of the Island’s unspoilt countryside and ancient woodland. Continue to the charming village of Godshill with time to wander amongst the thatched cottages, lovely boutiques and tea rooms or perhaps visit the model village.
Day 4 MONDAY A day at leisure in our resort.
Day 5 TUESDAY We visit Whippingham Church, with its connections to Queen Victoria followed by Osborne House, her seaside residence. Marvel at the sumptuous décor of the Royal Apartments and take an intimate glimpse into the private life of the Victorian royal family.
Day 6 WEDNESDAY This morning we visit the superb Botanic Garden and Visitors Centre, followed by free time in the afternoon to discover the delights of Ventnor.
Day 7 THURSDAY Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel up to Fishbourne for our ferry to Portsmouth, with a refreshment stop on the way, time permitting. We then continue along the south coast and home.
The Trouville is situated on The Esplanade in Sandown with sweeping views of the bay from the bar, the restaurant and the twin and double rooms. Single rooms do not have a view. Bedrooms offer TV, telephone, Wi-Fi, hairdryer and hospitality tray. There is a lift.
