Itinerary

Day 1 We travel by coach across country and into Wales and have a lunch stop close to Tintern Abbey. We continue up the Wye Valley, across the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park to our hotel in Llandrindod Wells for our five-night stay.

Day 2 We travel to Aberglasney Gardens, where we have free time to explore the 10 acres of magnificent gardens, with 20 different garden styles from formal to woodland to exotic and modern. Don’t miss the heart of the gardens – a fully restored Elizabethan Cloister Garden that is the only surviving example of its kind in the UK today. There is also time to visit the lovely tearooms overlooking the Pool Garden.

Day 3 This morning we travel along the beautiful Elan Valley with a stop at the visitor centre, overlooked by the dramatic dam and reservoirs. We have included a light lunch and time to explore before continuing to Gigrin Farm, in beautiful countryside overlooking both the Wye and the Elan Valleys. This family-run farm is now famous for the Red Kite Feeding Centre, and we enter specially constructed hides to witness the breathtaking spectacle of hundreds of wild red kites coming to feed. Enjoy tea and cake before we return to our hotel.

Day 4 A wonderful tour through the Wye Valley to Devil’s Bridge. Our destination is famous for its waterfalls and the three stacked bridges. Walk the 5-10 minutes down to the viewing platform or explore the station gift shop and Two Hoots Tearoom.* We board the Vale of Rheidol Heritage Railway for a scenic journey through 12 miles of stunning Welsh scenery, with the possibility of seeing red kites gliding through the skies along the way. At journey’s end, we have some free time in Aberystwyth to explore. We return to our hotel by coach.

Day 5 A free day to enjoy Llandrindod Wells, with its pretty park overlooking the River Ithon, and many shops and cafés in which to relax. You might like to visit the beautiful Llandrindod Lake, the National Cycle Collection or the Radnorshire Museum for a look into Llandrindod’s distant past. Alternatively, join your driver on a half day excursion to Ludlow.

Day 6 eaving our hotel after breakfast we travel across the border and visit Ledbury, one of the beautiful black-and-white towns of the area, before continuing our journey to the local area, reaching our taxis late afternoon.
