On this festive tour to Devon, we visit Christmas markets, great coastal towns, scenic landscapes and have plenty of time to explore and relax. Perhaps pick up a last-minute Christmas gift or simply watch the world go by during this short break.
Day 1 MONDAY We travel to Devon with refreshment stops en-route, arriving late afternoon at the Copthorne Plymouth for our 4-night stay
Day 2 TUESDAY After breakfast we visit the charming estuary town of Kingsbridge in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty before continuing along the heritage coast past Slapton Sands, where a stone monument commemorates the ill-fated WWII ‘Operation Tiger’. Finish the day with free time in the picturesque naval town of Dartmouth.
Day 3 WEDNESDAY This morning we start with a scenic drive over Dartmoor National Park, taking in the pretty landscapes as we pass through Princetown as we head for Widecombe, the prettiest village in the moor. We continue onto Buckfast Abbey, a living Benedictine Monastery famous for its extraordinary history and tranquil atmosphere.
Day 4 THURSDAY Departing from Mayflower Steps, we enjoy a cruise across Plymouth Sound, flanked by the beautiful Devon and Cornish coasts. We pass Plymouth Hoe and the famous Drake Island as we cruise gently to the River Tamar passing the largest Naval Dockyards in Western Europe where we will hopefully catch glimpses of mighty warships and nuclear submarines at anchor. Once ashore we can discover the sites of Plymouth at your own pace visiting Plymouth’s popular Christmas Market.
Day 5 FRIDAY Departing after breakfast we travel east, with suitable stops along the way. We return you to your homes in the afternoon.
