Itinerary

Day 1 MONDAY We travel to Somerset making suitable refreshment stops along the way.

Day 2 TUESDAY This morning we visit Arlington Court (NT), an unexpected jewel on the edge of Exmoor. This family estate held by the Chichester family for over 500 years, houses a collection of treasures for all tastes, from model ships to shells collected over several generations. Also discover the Carriage Museum where you can see over 40 vehicles ranging from elegant coaches used for state occasions to humble carts that would have carried servants.

Day 3 WEDNESDAY Today, our included excursion takes us along the North Devon Coast, to the charming twin resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth, spectacularly situated on the northern edge of the Exmoor National Park and linked by a cliff railway.

Day 4 THURSDAY Settled on the outskirts of Tiverton is the stunning Gothic country house of Knightshayes Court (NT). Built in 1872, this grand house is surrounded by formal gardens, parkland, and woodlands. Step inside to discover the striking interior, designed by William Burges that blends medieval and Gothic with Burges love of French architecture. You’ll be greeted by looming gargoyles, a grand Great Hall, gilded ceilings, historic portraits, and rich velvets.

Day 5 FRIDAY Departing after breakfast we visit Montacute House (NT) - a masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design with towering walls of glass, glowing ham stone and glorious gardens. In the afternoon we continue our journey homeward.
