We are based in Perth and spend our days exploring the beautiful autumn scenery, visiting Edinburgh, New Lanark Mill and Scone Palace, and tasting a little shortbread and whisky along the way.

Please note: There will be bus transfers from the centre of Pitlochry to the Enchanted Forest site. There is then a designated route which should take between 30 and 50 minutes to walk around (1.8km). It has some uneven ground and steepish slopes, so is unsuitable for the less mobile.

Itinerary

Day 1 A fairly early start is required today to make our way up to our overnight hotel in the Cumbria area.

Day 2 We continue northwards and cross the border into Scotland, via Moffat, and up to New Lanark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the picturesque River Clyde. Have a look around this unique 18th-century mill village, explore the visitor centre and enjoy an included light lunch. We continue our journey to Perth arriving in time for our dinner, and our four-night stay.

Day 3 After breakfast, we travel into the glorious autumn countryside to Crieff, where you will need to purchase snacks and sandwiches for our day of scenic driving. We then visit the spiritual home of Famous Grouse and Glenturret, where we have a guided tour of the distillery along with a dram or two. Now we begin our gorgeous scenic drive along the shores of Loch Earn, through Glen Ogle, along Loch Tay and back to Perth via Glen Almond – bursting with autumn colours and stunning views. explore the visitor centre and enjoy an included light lunch. We continue our journey to Perth arriving in time for our dinner, and our four-night stay.

Day 4 This morning we visit Scone Palace, poised above the River Tay and housing an outstanding collection of antiques, paintings and rare artifacts. The Palace stands in magnificent grounds and has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of kings, including Macbeth and Robert The Bruce. We return to Perth for a little free time and an early dinner before driving up to Pitlochry to enjoy the Enchanted Forest. With dazzling visuals and innovative designs set to music, explore the stunning autumn woodland setting of Faskally Woods as it is transformed by this spectacular sound and light show!

Day 5 This morning is free in Perth. You might like to explore the public parks, museums, stroll through the cobbled streets with Georgian townhouses and medieval spires, or along the banks of The Tay. In the afternoon we visit the Black Watch Museum, housed in the historic Balhousie Castle, which tells the story of Scotland’s premier Highland Regiment. We have included a short tour, tea and shortbread. For those who don’t wish to walk to the museum, transport will be provided.

Day 6 Travelling south, we cross the Firth of Forth and reach Edinburgh. We have some free time for your own exploration, before continuing across the border to our overnight hotel in the Newcastle area.

Day 7 We make our way home, with suitable refreshment stops along the way, reaching the local area in the evening.

The 17th-century hotel is centrally located within the town’s main shopping area and provides a welcoming atmosphere, good food and comfortable accommodation. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, ironing facilities, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel has a lift, but some steps throughout.
