Mountainous landscapes, hillside villages and harbour towns line the shores of the spectacular northern tip of Lake Garda. Explore medieval lakeside towns, the majestic Dolomites and the romantic city of Verona, or simply relax on the lakeside with a cocktail or an ice cream.
Day 1 After an early start, we make our way to Dover for our short sea crossing to Calais. We continue through France to Germany and our overnight hotel in time for our evening meal.
Day 2 We continue our journey into the mountains of Austria and into Italy, arriving on the northern shores of Lake Garda and the Hotel Sole in time for a welcome drink, evening meal and a stay of five nights.
Day 3 A free day to relax by the lake and explore the beautiful surroundings. You could stroll between Riva and Torbole on the flat lakeside path, or you might like to take a boat across to the delightful village of Limone on the eastern shore (not included) or take a walk up to the Bastione for wonderful views over the lake.
Day 4 We travel north to the dramatic Dolomites for a scenic tour, with spectacular views over the Brenta Peaks. We visit Predazzo at over 1000m above sea level, where the old town centre is dominated by the neo-Gothic church and many of the old houses are decorated with frescoes. A day of winding mountain roads, hairpin bends, high passes and breathtaking views. The route of this day may change depending on local conditions, but the scenery will always be stunning! Tonight, we enjoy a typical Trentino dinner at our hotel.
Day 5 A visit to the ancient town of Malcesine, with its maze of cobbled streets sitting on the edge of the lake, in the shadow of the breathtaking Monte Baldo, the largest mountain in the region. A cable car can be taken to the top for spectacular views (not included). We then visit the pretty walled town of Lazise, which has a wonderful old town with narrow alleyways, picturesque squares and a 12th-century church. Tonight we have a candlelight Gala Dinner at our hotel.
Day 6 We journey to the City of Verona, famously known as the setting for the Shakespearean tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, situated on the banks of the River Adige. Enjoy a free day and take time to explore the great Roman Arena, one of the largest and best-preserved amphitheatres in the world, or alternatively stroll through the evocative streets, historic piazzas and enjoy a cappuccino in one of the many charming cafés.
Day 7 We bid a fond farewell to our lakeside hotel and begin our journey home with an overnight stop en route.
Day 8 After breakfast we continue our travels with a short ferry crossing back to the UK. We continue to the local area and arrive in the evening.
