A remarkable experience is within your reach as we sail along the Romantic Rhine to take part in the ‘Rhein in Flammen’, floating amongst the vessels adorned with lights, as spectacular firework displays light up the night sky. Seeing this stunning visual spectacle from the decks of our ship will be an unforgettable moment to treasure.
Day 1 We make our way to Dover for the Channel crossing to Calais/Dunkirk. Once in France we travel south to our overnight hotel (half board).
Day 2 After breakfast we drive to Strasbourg, with suitable stops along the way, and board the MS Gérard Schmitter late afternoon. There is a welcome cocktail before dinner on board. During the night we sail toward Rüdesheim.
Day 3 This morning we relax on board as we cruise along the Rhine. Upon reaching Rüdesheim, explore this pretty town or take part in one of the optional excursions. The first includes a trip on a small train stopping at a wine tasting cellar, followed by a visit to the Museum of Mechanical Music. Another, more adventurous, optional excursion takes you from the centre of the town to catch the gondola lift to Niederwalddenkmal, to take an 8km-hike through the vineyards.
Day 4 Another morning spent cruising through the most beautiful section of the Romantic Rhine. All along the banks of the meandering river you can see castles and medieval villages set amidst the renowned vineyards, and the legendary Lorelei Rock. At Koblenz you could stroll around the old town, and in the evening, we sail toward Trechtingshausen to take our place among the boats on the river for an unforgettable experience – the legendary Rhine in Flames.
Day 5 Spend the day relaxing on board as we cruise back toward Strasbourg. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to Heidelberg, where you will enjoy amazing views over the city on the River Neckar, stroll through the castle gardens and take a guided tour of the old city. You will reboard the ship in Mannheim. This evening enjoy a Gala dinner on board with a final night of entertainment from the crew.
Day 6 We disembark in Strasbourg and travel northwards, making suitable refreshment stops along the way, to reach our overnight hotel (half board).
Day 7 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel via the motorways to Calais/Dunkirk for our Channel crossing. We continue back to the south coast, reaching the local area late evening.
