Explore Valkenburg, Liège, historic Maastricht and beautiful Monschau on this delightful summer tour. Treat yourself to some monk-brewed beer and local cheese, and relax at an included wine tasting.
Day 1 After an early departure, we travel via Dover to Calais and reach our hotel in Valkenburg late afternoon.
Day 2 A day at leisure. You could visit the striking ruins of Valkenburg Castle, venture underground to explore the fascinating cave network beneath the town, or take a chairlift high above the town for a bird’s eye view over the landscape (entrances not included). Tonight we have a ‘Three Countries Menu’ at our hotel.
Day 3 Today we visit three countries! We first visit Germany and Monschau, a charming medieval town of half-timbered buildings and cobbled streets. We cross into Belgium and Liège, on the picturesque Meuse River for free time for lunch. You could visit the stunning St Paul’s Cathedral, the Montagne de Bueren staircase or La Boverie Museum. In the afternoon we have a short stop at the Abbaye Val-Dieu, founded in 1216 by Cistercian monks and now a haven of peace as well as a lively brewery. We return to Holland and our hotel.
Day 4 We travel the short distance to Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in Holland, with free time to take in the sights. In the afternoon we visit Apostelhoeve, where we enjoy a tour of the vineyard and a wine tasting.
Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we travel back to Calais with a short stop in the seaside resort of Ostend. Once back in the UK, we make our way back to the local area in the evening.
