National Trust Members’ Tour: We delve into North Wales to visit three wonderful National Trust properties. National Trust Members' price is £629!
Day 1 We travel northwards and into Wales, through the Snowdonia National Park, arriving at our hotel in Llanberis late afternoon where we are greeted with tea and biscuits.
Day 2 This morning we visit Penrhyn Castle (NT), where the dominating stone façade hides opulent interiors of fine art, neo-Norman stairways and Victorian kitchens. In the afternoon you can either visit Caernarfon or take a ride on the Snowdon Mountain Railway to Clogwyn, a dramatic and beautiful journey, but very weather dependent. (Approx. £30. Request when booking).
Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we visit Bodnant Garden (NT), where we find 80-acres of rare trees and shrubs, Italianate terraces, wonderful herbaceous beds amid autumn reds and golds. The afternoon is free in Llandudno.
Day 4 Our day on the Isle of Anglesey begins with Beaumaris, an historic town with medieval castle, gaol and courthouse. We then visit the ancestral home of the Marquis of Anglesey – Plas Newydd House (NT), designed by James Wyatt in the 18th Century and overlooking the Menai Strait. Explore the elegant rooms, the fabulous gardens and the Waterloo-inspired military museum.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we make our way home, with suitable refreshment stops along the way.
Our three-star hotel is located just ½ mile from the centre of Llanberis, at the foot of Mount Snowdon. From the hotel gardens there are superb views of the mountains all around and guests can even explore the ruins of Dolbadarn Castle, located in the grounds. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, ironing facilities, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
