National Trust Members’ Tour: This delightful holiday takes in some of the wonderful towns, stunning landscapes and remarkable houses and gardens of Kent, we visit four National Trust properties spanning the centuries and offering glimpses into times long past.
Day 1 Once all our passengers are aboard, we make our way to Kent, with a stop in Tunbridge Wells. After free time for lunch, we continue to our hotel outside Maidstone.
Day 2 After breakfast we travel to Canterbury, where we meet our guide and enjoy a 90-minute walking tour of the historic city. The rest of the day is free for your own exploration.
Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast we visit Sissinghurst Castle Garden (NT), to explore the colourful floral displays, take a lakeside walk or discover the lovingly restored gazebo overlooking the moat and Kent Weald. This afternoon we visit Scotney Castle (NT), a 14th-century moated country house with beautiful formal gardens set in a wonderful wooded estate.
Day 4 Our day begins with a drive to Rochester, with its Norman Castle and cathedral, and its links to Charles Dickens. Our afternoon is spent at Knole (NT), a former archbishop's palace and home to one of the rarest collections of Stuart royal furniture, paintings, objects and textiles.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we spend the morning at Chartwell (NT), much-loved home of Winston Churchill, and the rooms remain very much as he left them, with pictures, books and personal mementos evoking his career and wide-ranging interests. We start our journey homewards early afternoon.
Our four-star hotel is set in 26 acres of private grounds near Maidstone, with extensive leisure facilities including 16m indoor swimming pool, sauna, gym, croquet, outdoor tennis courts and treatment rooms. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel has a lift.
