Itinerary

Day 1 We travel north with suitable refreshment stops along the way, arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2 Today we make our way to the heart of the peaks and the beautiful, historic village of Eyam. The village became famous after the Black Death of 1665 and 1666. An outbreak of the plague was contained when the villagers decided to isolate themselves from the surrounding communities. You have time to explore the village and we have included entry to Eyam Museum. Later we make our way to Buxton where we have some free time before returning to our hotel.

Day 3 After breakfast, we visit Quarry Bank Mill (NT) to explore this once thriving cotton mill and see glimpses of the lives of the masters of the industrial revolution and those who toiled to keep the mill running. In the afternoon we explore Lyme Park (NT), nestling on the edge of the Peak District, surrounded by gardens, moorland and a deer park. Originally a remote hunting lodge, Lyme Park was turned into an Italianate palace in the 18th Century, with lavish interiors and packed with treasures.

Day 4 We begin our day with a drive into the Peak District including beautiful vistas over Ladybower Reservoir and a visit to Bakewell. In the afternoon we visit Biddulph Grange Gardens (NT), an amazing Victorian garden created by James Bateman for his collection of plants from around the world.

Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we travel south with a stop at the National Memorial Arboretum, before continuing our journey home.
