A wonderful chance to explore the beautiful scenery and fascinating history of the Southern Lake District
Day 1 After our door to door pick ups, we travel by coach northwards to the Lake District, making suitable refreshment stops along the way and arriving in time to enjoy our evening meal.
Day 2 This morning we travel up to Haverthwaite for the short train journey to Lakeside. Here we board our boat for the 50-minute cruise across Lake Windermere to Bowness, where our coach will be waiting. After some free time, we have a scenic drive up to Ambleside before returning to our hotel.
Day 3 Today we begin with a ‘brief encounter’ at Carnforth Station, which was immortalised in David Lean’s 1945 film. We continue to Morecambe for free time to explore and get some lunch. Our afternoon is spent at Leighton Hall, a romantic, Gothic house home to the famous Gillow furniture making family. We have a tour of the house and a delicious afternoon tea in the charming Tea Rooms.
Day 4 After breakfast, we travel via Pooley Bridge to Holker Hall, a magnificent Victorian mansion of neo-Elizabethan Gothic style, steeped in history and home to the Cavendish family. We then have free time to explore Grange-over-Sands, before returning to our hotel mid-afternoon.
Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we make our way south by the motorways, reaching the local area and our taxis early evening.
Tucked away in the tranquil Lyth Valley, the three-star Damson Dene Hotel is set in a beautifully landscaped garden not far from Bowness. Leisure facilities include indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and gym. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, hairdryer, ironing facilities and hospitality tray. There is no lift, but some ground floor rooms are available.
