This tour offers some real delights for animal and nature lovers, as it includes fabulous owls at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, magnificent Suffolk Punch horses at the world’s oldest stud farm and some of Suffolk’s most wonderful gardens.
Day 1 We travel east via the Dartford Crossing for a late lunch stop in Colchester. We continue into Suffolk and out hotel near Woodbridge.
Day 2 We begin our day with a visit to The Suffolk Punch Trust, the world’s oldest and largest Suffolk Punch stud farm. Meet these magnificent horses, and find out how they shaped the landscape of East Anglia and helped to develop farming throughout the Eastern Counties. Later we visit Felixstowe, with time for lunch and to explore some of the Seafront Gardens which stretch for almost 1km along the promenade.
Day 3 We begin in Bury St Edmunds with free time to explore, visit the cathedral, abbey ruins or beautiful and tranquil 14-acre Abbey Gardens in the heart of the city. In the afternoon we visit Melford Hall. Uncover the connection between Beatrix Potter and the Hyde Parker family or take a walk in the wildlife-friendly woodland.
Day 4 After a short visit to the nearby town of Woodbridge we make our way to Helmingham Hall Gardens, with its Grade 1 listed gardens surrounding the spectacular moated Hall. See the red deer and explore its diverse range of gardens. After lunch we visit the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, see flying displays (subject to weather conditions), aviaries and learn about these magnificent birds.
Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we visit the famous Tiptree Jam Museum in Essex, before continuing our journey back to the local area with suitable refreshment stops along the way
