Day 1 We travel north via the Dartford Crossing to Colchester, where there will be time to have lunch and to explore some of the 2000 years of history on show in the many museums, fascinating buildings and quiet narrow lanes. We arrive at our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2 This morning we visit Bury St Edmunds, famous for its Abbey Gardens and the Angel Hotel, where Dickens had Mrs Pickwick stay. We continue to the pretty villages of Cavendish and Clare, with their pastel coloured cottages. We return via Lavenham, with its half-timbered buildings and famous crooked house.

Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we travel to the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the quaint seaside town of Aldeburgh. After a stroll along the seafront, we have booked a wonderful fish and chip lunch at a local hotel. On our return journey we visit Snape Maltings where you can explore the independent shops, cafés and galleries – set against a beautiful expanse of Suffolk countryside.

Day 4 Today we delve into Constable and Gainsborough Country to discover the idyllic villages and landscapes that inspired the famous painters. With our local guide, we visit Constable’s birthplace at East Bergholt, an unspoilt village with many fine old houses and cottages, the church at Dedham and the little hamlet of Flatford Mill. In the afternoon we visit Sudbury for tea and cake.

Day 5 We depart after breakfast and make our way back to the local area with suitable refreshment stops along the way.
