A wonderful late spring tour into the pretty county of Shropshire, with houses, gardens and a heritage train journey through the beautiful scenery of the Severn Valley.
Day 1 We travel toward Shropshire, making suitable refreshment stops along the way, and arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 A visit to Weston Park, where we have time to explore Weston House, home to a world-class collection of fine and decorative arts. Stroll through formal and Italian gardens and admire 1000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown parkland. We return to our hotel mid-afternoon.
Day 3 This morning we visit Blists Hill, a fascinating re-creation of a Victorian town complete with staff in authentic costume. We also visit Ironbridge, a centre of the Industrial Revolution and famously home to the world’s first iron bridge.
Day 4 A short drive to Bridgnorth brings us to the Severn Valley Railway for a return heritage train journey to Kidderminster. We break our journey in Highley with a visit to the Engine House Visitor Centre, where you might like to get some lunch. Reboard the train and visit Kidderminster, before returning to Bridgnorth, a town divided in two and linked by a remarkable cliff railway. We return to our hotel by coach.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast we travel south via The Cotswolds, before continuing home.
This beautiful four-star hotel is set within 170 acres of Shropshire countryside and the restaurant enjoys fantastic views over Ironbridge Gorge. The hotel has an indoor pool, spa, sauna, gym and treatment rooms. All bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, ironing facilities, hairdryer and hospitality tray. There is a lift to some rooms.
