Itinerary

Day 1 After your taxi pick up, we travel by coach to St Albans where we have a break for lunch and sightseeing. We continue to our hotel in Letchworth, arriving to tea and biscuits and time to relax before dinner.

Day 2 Our excursion today takes us to Bletchley Park, once Britain’s best kept secret, home to the secret WWII Enigma decoding machine, and also birthplace of the modern computer. It is now a heritage site where we can explore some of the iconic codebreaking huts, see the Enigma Machines and a wartime mini-cinema, all housed in the ornate Victorian mansion which was Intelligence HQ during the war. We return via Bedford, on the banks of the Great Ouse.

Day 3 This morning we visit the beautiful town of Saffron Walden with free time to visit the shops, museums and cafés. At lunchtime we transfer to Audley End House, a fine Jacobean mansion with stunning views across the unspoilt Essex countryside. We have an included one-plate hot lunch and time to explore the house to find out more about life above and below stairs.

Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast, we visit the superb Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Formally an RAF base, Duxford is today Europe’s foremost aviation museum. See the spectacular collection of British and American planes, as well as a huge collection of tanks, vehicles, naval exhibits and artefacts.

Day 5 We depart after breakfast and make our way to the local area making suitable refreshment stops along the way. We join our taxis midafternoon and continue home.
