Visit The King’s country retreat – Sandringham, and also explore the pretty locality by coach and by heritage train.
Day 1 We make our way via Saffron Walden to King’s Lynn and our hotel.
Day 2 Our highlight today as we visit Sandringham, the much-loved country retreat of the late Queen Elizabeth, and private home to five generations of British monarchs since 1862. The house is set in 24 acres of stunning gardens in the heart of the 8000-hectare estate, edged with fields of lavender. We have included entrance to the house, gardens and the museum.
Day 3 This morning we travel down through the Fens to Ely, where you might like to visit the magnificent cathedral, the Stained Glass Museum, Oliver Cromwell’s House or just relax in one of the many cafés (entrances not included). Our afternoon is free in King’s Lynn.
Day 4 We travel up to the North Norfolk Heritage Coast visiting Sheringham before boarding the Poppy Line for a heritage train ride with stunning views of the countryside down to the Georgian market town of Holt. We have free time for lunch before visiting the Thursford Museum, to see the world’s largest collection of steam engines and organs.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel to the university city of Cambridge, where there will be time for lunch and sightseeing. We then continue to the local area and home.
