Sheringham Park is famous for its vast collection of rhododendrons. The last owner before the park passed to the National Trust would hold rhododendron champagne parties in the 1950s to show off the amazing displays. Enjoy this stunning garden at its best and visit the historic towns of Saffron Walden, Wells-next-the-Sea and Lavenham on this new weekend break.
Day 1 After being picked up from your door by taxi, you meet your tour coach and we head north east and into Essex via the Dartford Crossing. We have a stop at the delightful Medieval market town of Saffron Walden, before continuing up to Norfolk and our hotel. We have tea and biscuits on arrival and a two-night stay.
Day 2 We begin our day with a drive to Wells-next-the-Sea, architecturally the loveliest town on this coast. Its quaint lanes, alleyways, hidden courtyards and traditional houses date back to the 17th Century, and you might like to take a pleasant stroll along the historic quayside to watch the boats coming and going. From here we continue to Sheringham for some free time for lunch, and then this afternoon we visit wonderful Sheringham Park. One of Humphry Repton’s most outstanding achievements, the park’s undulating landscape has been used to its best advantage for fine views of the North Norfolk coast. The extensive rhododendron collection is a delight to see.
Day 3 Departing after breakfast, we travel to Lavenham in Suffolk, considered by many to be Britain’s best-preserved Medieval village, where timber-framed buildings line the narrow streets and lanes. We continue to the local area, arriving to meet our taxis late afternoon.
