The historic city of Plymouth is an excellent base for this autumn tour, with its quaint cobbled quayside, wonderful National Marine Aquarium and, of course, Plymouth Hoe.
Day 1 Leaving the local area this morning we travel west, stopping at Ottery St Mary Garden Centre for lunch and refreshments (not included), reaching our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 Our first visit is to the Grade II listed port of Charlestown, clearly recognisable as the film location for Poldark. Here we visit the Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre to learn fascinating stories of the port, ships and the wrecks along this treacherous coast. Our next stop is Mevagissey, with its maze of narrow streets around the pretty harbour.
Day 3 Today we drive to rugged Bodmin Moor and stop at Jamaica Inn, with its Daphne Du Maurier associations and a museum filled with smuggling artefacts collected over many years. We return to Plymouth for a free afternoon in this historic city.
Day 4 We travel over to Torquay for some free time to explore the town. In the afternoon we board the Dartmouth Steam Railway in Paignton for a return journey to Kingswear, overlooking the River Dart. We then return to our hotel for our last evening dinner.
Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we visit Exeter and have free time to explore. We continue eastwards and meet our taxis late afternoon.
