A delightful weekend visiting historic towns and villages along the River Thames, finishing with a drop of gin!
Day 1 After your taxi pick up from your home, we make our way by coach to Squires Garden Centre in Milford with time to get some lunch. We then continue to our four-star hotel on the River Thames.
Day 2 We travel first to Henley-on-Thames, famous for the annual regatta, with a little time to explore before we continue to Windsor and its magnificent castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Established in the 11th Century, we see the opulent State Apartments, furnished with some of the finest works in the Royal Collection including masterpieces by Holbein, Rubens and Van Dyck, fine English and French furniture, and the tiny treasures of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House. Your admission also includes St George’s Chapel, set beautifully in the Castle Precincts. Spend all your time in the castle or take time to explore the town.
Day 3 Today we visit Morse and Midsomer Murders country as we head into Oxfordshire and visit Wallingford on Thames, a quintessentially English Market town, with historic buildings dating across the centuries, cobbled streets, pleasant cafés and independent shops. We continue along The Thames to the ‘Dreaming Spires’ of Oxford. Excellent museums, ancient colleges, 1500 listed buildings, restaurants, pubs and cafés, will make your day in Oxford unforgettable.
Day 4 Leaving our hotel after a leisurely breakfast, we travel south to Laverstoke Mill, home to the excellent Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery. We have a tour and introduction to the botanicals used to create the distinctive flavour, as well as a guided tasting. After time to have some lunch, we continue our journey home.
