Explore wonderful historic houses, gorgeous gardens, the magnificent Lichfield Cathedral, and the highlight of our tour – The National Memorial Arboretum.
Day 1 A morning collection by taxi before joining our coach for our journey northwards, with suitable stops en-route, arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 Today we journey to Lichfield and visit Erasmus Darwin House, once the family home of doctor, inventor and published poet Erasmus Darwin, whose interests and achievements laid the foundations for his grandson Charles. We have free time in Lichfield for lunch before we visit Lichfield Cathedral, the only medieval three-spired cathedral in the UK. We enjoy a cream tea before we return to our hotel.
Day 3 Today is the highlight of our tour, a full day visit to the National Memorial Arboretum. The UK's Year-Round Centre of Remembrance, with 150 acres, over 300 memorials and an abundance of wildlife, there is something for everyone at the Arboretum. Join the daily Act of Remembrance at 11am, explore the “Landscapes of Life” exhibition, enjoy one of the informative talks or relax on the land train, an excellent way to take in a large proportion of the site’s fascinating memorials.
Day 4 A visit to the Shugborough Estate, where we have time to explore the mansion house, servants’ quarters, museum, Georgian farm and the beautiful gardens. Lunch is available in the onsite restaurant or café. We return to our hotel mid-afternoon.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel homewards making suitable refreshment stops along the way.
