Based in Bardolino on magnificent Lake Garda, we combine excursions to explore the lake’s beautiful towns and the city of Verona – the spiritual home of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet - with two days to relax by the lakeside.
Day 1 Following collection from home by taxi, we travel to Dover for the short ferry crossing to Calais. We continue through France to Germany arriving at our overnight hotel in time for our evening meal.
Day 2 We continue our journey into the mountains of Austria and across the Brenner Pass into Italy, arriving on the shores of Lake Garda in time for our evening meal and a stay of five nights with dinner, bed and breakfast at the Parc Gritti Hotel.
Day 3 Today is a free day to relax by the lake. Bardolino is at the southern end of Lake Garda, at the foot of hills covered with olive groves and vineyards. It is not only known for the production of the famous Bardolino red wine and the rosé Chiaretto, but for the beauty of the old town centre with its numerous narrow streets, many interesting shops and restaurants and long promenades along the lake shore.
Day 4 We journey to the City of Verona, famously known as the setting for the Shakespearean tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and his comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Enjoy a free day and take time to explore the great Roman Arena, one of the largest and best amphitheatres in the world, or alternatively stroll through the evocative streets, historic piazzas and enjoy a cappuccino in one of the many charming cafés.
Day 5 After breakfast, drive to the north of Lake Garda and spend the day exploring Riva Del Garda and Limone Sul Garda. Riva del Garda is a beautiful town at the northern more moutainous tip of the lake, with splendid lakeside walks and many pretty piazzas. Limone is a smaller village on the eastern shore, with a lovely harbour in the old town, and narrow lanes lined with shops winding along the shore and up the slopes behind. There are picturesque water terraces, and plenty of places to eat and drink while admiring the views.
Day 6 Another free day to explore the area. Maybe enjoy a boat ride on the lake or take a trip to one of the local towns. You might like to take a bus to Sirmione, at the southern end of Lake Garda, dominated by its 13th Century castle and filled with narrow streets lined with shops, cafés and tempting ice cream parlours.
Day 7 Today we leave our hotel after breakfast and begin our return journey. We reach our overnight hotel in time for an early meal.
Day 8 We continue through France to Calais and join a late afternoon short sea crossing to Dover before travelling to the local area where our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
