Everyone should experience the beauty of the flowers of Holland, where in spring the famous bulbfields unfurl like a rainbow. We have a day in Amsterdam, with its multitude of canals and excellent museums and we also visit Keukenhof Gardens, which offer the visitor 70 acres of colourful splendour – and view the wonderous annual Flower Parade.
Day 1 We travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais and then make our way through Belgium and into Holland. Suitable stops will be made en route for meals and refreshments.
Day 2 We visit the world famous Keukenhof Gardens, with plenty of time to enjoy the gardens created in 1949 as a showpiece for the Dutch flower industry, and to walk among the magnificent displays of tulips and other bulbs which bloom in their millions. During the day you can leave the gardens to view the annual Flower Parade as it makes its way from Noordwijk to Haarlem.
Day 3 A full day in Amsterdam including a cruise on a glass topped boat. Sit back and enjoy the sights along the network of over 160 canals and 1000 bridges, travelling through the UNESCO canal district alongside 17th-century gabled houses and beautiful churches. The rest of the day is free and this compact city is easily explored on foot. You could visit one of the many museums, buy yourself some diamonds, visit the famous ‘Damrak’ shopping street or relax in a café and watch the world go by.
Day 4 We travel through Holland, across Belgium and on to the port of Calais for our afternoon short sea crossing. We then return along the coast, meeting our taxis and continuing home.
Our four-star hotel is set in the midst of the Dutch countryside to the east of Utrecht, and has a restaurant (buffet service), terrace and gardens. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, safe, fridge, hairdryer and coffee & tea facilities. There is a lift, but some steps may be encountered.
