The Great Dorset Steam Fair is a typically British event offering a unique blend of nostalgia and entertainment. We combine this with a visit to Bristol’s historic harbourside & Brunel’s SS Great Britain.
Day 1 After being picked up by taxi, we join our tour coach and make our way across country to Chippenham, where you have time for lunch and to explore the historic market town before we check in at our hotel.
Day 2 Today, an early start as we visit the Great Dorset Steam Fair, held in the showground near Blandford Forum in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside. There are around 200 working steam engines on show and 2000 other working exhibits, including a steam-driven funfair. Vintage, veteran and classic cars, lorries, military vehicles, tractors and motorcycles are shown as well as 500 trade stands, food stalls and live music.
Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast we visit the iconic steamship SS Great Britain. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the ship lies at the heart of a multi-award-winning visitor attraction. You can tour the ship from the sumptuous surrounds of the First Class Dining Room to the cramped bunks in steerage, visit the Dockyard Museum to learn the fascinating story of this luxury liner since her launch in 1843. Then free time to explore the cafés and shops of the harbour-side.
Day 4 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel across country and have a break over lunchtime in Marlborough. We reach the local area late afternoon and meet our taxis.
