Our regular customers will know the excellent Brend Group of hotels. This year we have a summer visit to the Royal & Fortescue in Barnstaple. North Devon is a treasure trove of fine houses and stunning summer gardens, and we have included visits to Hartland Abbey, Arlington Court, Marwood Hill Gardens and, of course, RHS Rosemoor.
Day 1 After your taxi pick up, we make our way to North Devon, making suitable refreshment stops along the way. We arrive at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 We begin with a visit to Marwood Hill Gardens, a 20-acre private garden tucked away in a valley which has been a haven of peace since its creation in the 1950s. Some of the garden walks are quite challenging, but the view across the valley from the Garden Tea Room is spectacular. In the afternoon we visit Arlington Court, a regency house set in an extensive estate, and home to a large collection of horse-drawn vehicles.
Day 3 This morning we visit Bideford, and in the afternoon Hartland Abbey, cherished home of the Stucley family since it was gifted to them at the dissolution of the monasteries, filled with treasures and memorabilia collected over many generations.
Day 4 A free morning in Barnstaple, where you might like to visit the famous Pannier Market, which on Wednesdays has both a general and an antiques and collectables market. Our afternoon is spent at the gorgeous RHS Garden Rosemoor.
Day 5 We depart after breakfast and travel to the Clarks Village complex in Street, with over 90 different stores. We arrive back in the local area late afternoon.
A former coaching inn right in the centre of Barnstaple, this historic threestar hotel combines old world character and charm with the convenience of a modern hotel. All rooms are equipped with TV, radio, telephone, hairdryer and hospitality tray. There is WiFi, a number of ground floor rooms, and a lift to all floors.
