Stroll through the villages and countryside of Suffolk with an accredited Blue Badge guide, and visit the scenes which inspired Gainsborough and Constable.
Day 1 We travel east via the Dartford Crossing, and after suitable refreshment stops, we reach our hotel in Sudbury, with tea, coffee and cake on arrival. This evening we have a welcome drink before our dinner.
Day 2 Our walk this morning begins in East Bergholt, birthplace of Constable, and continues through country lanes to Flatford Mill, with views across the Dedham Vale and River Stour Valley. We follow the course of the river through Constable Country and arrive in the village of Dedham to meet our coach. (Walk: approx 3.5 miles). By coach we make our way to Great Eastern, where we have an included Ploughman’s lunch before an introductory talk and a ride on some beautiful vintage vehicles.
Day 3 This morning’s walk begins at our hotel and crosses the water meadows of Sudbury, once inspiration to Gainsborough. We then follow the shaded path along the route of the old railway to Long Melford, where we pause for refreshments (not included). Continuing through the village, we pass the green and the Tudor Melford Hall, and visit the stunning Holy Trinity Church, before joining our coach. (Walk: approx 4.25 miles). Our afternoon is spent at St George’s Distillery, where we enjoy a two-course buffet lunch and, of course, a tasting.
Day 4 We depart after breakfast, and make our way back to the local area, reaching our taxis in the afternoon.
