On this tour we delve into the wild Camargue touring by river and by road, and visit some beautiful sights as we travel along these wonderful rivers. Our six-night cruise takes us along the Rhône and the Saône stopping in Arles, Avignon – the city of popes, the medieval city of Viviers, Lyon, Vienne and the dramatic gorge of the Ardeche. AVignon
Day 1 After a taxi pick up from your door, we travel by coach to Dover and the sea crossing to Calais. We then travel down though France to our overnight hotel in the area of Troyes.
Day 2 After breakfast we drive to the wonderful town of Beaune, where you can see the remarkable paintings which adorn the walls of the famous hospice and the Hotel Dieu. In the afternoon we continue south to Lyon and our second overnight stop.
Day 3 Today we explore Roman France with a visit to Orange and the chance to see the best preserved Roman theatre in the country. We then drive to Nîmes for a view of the impressive Pont du Gard aqueduct before continuing to Martigues where we board the MS Mistral and enjoy a presentation and welcome from the crew before dinner.
Day 4 We sail early morning and arrive in Port Saint-Louis. By coach we tour** the Camargue and have free time in the delightful village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, before returning onboard at Arles for lunch. In the afternoon free time in Arles or an optionalwalking tour before we sail toward Avignon late afternoon.
Day 5 Free time in Avignon or an optional guided tour of this impressive town. After lunch on board we cruise through the lock in Bollène and arrive in the beautiful medieval town of Viviers in the evening. Dinner onboard is followed by an optional guided tour on foot.
Day 6 Breakfast on board before departing by coach** to the Ardèche Gorge. We head toward Bourg Saint Andéol, across the Plateau des Gras to reach Vallon Pont d’Arc and see the famous rock arch hewn from the valley. We reboard in La Voulte and have lunch on board. In the afternoon there is an optional excursion to Vercors which includes a wine tasting, the Rousset mountain pass, La Chapelle en Vercors and Pont en Royans, famous for its suspension houses. Reboard in Tain l’Hermitage for dinner.
Day 7 We arrive in Vienne after breakfast, where there is an optional walking tour, then cruise over lunch time to Lyon. With free time or an optional guided tour of the city. Dinner is on board and we cruise up the Saône, past the illuminated old neighbourhoods of Lyon.
Day 8 We cruise through the morning past Beaujolais and Mâconnais vineyards before arriving in Tournus. After a brief stop we cruise north on the Saône through beautiful countryside until we reach Chalon-sur-Saône and enjoy a gala evening on board.
Day 9 We disembark and head north to our overnight hotel in the area of Reims.
Day 10 We continue north to reach Calais and our short sea crossing to Dover. From here we head homewards.
Our CroisiEurope ship has 78 cabins all of which have private facilities with showers, and are equipped with TV, safe, hairdryer and airconditioning. The ship has a delightful panoramic lounge with dance ﬂoor and a bar, a comfortable restaurant, a gift shop and a spacious sundeck. There is no lift, and main deck cabins are accessed down stairs.
