Itinerary

Day 1 After being picked up from your door by taxi and taken to your tour coach, we travel west with suitable refreshment stops and reach our hotel in Caernarfon late afternoon for our overnight stay.

Day 2 We travel to Holyhead in time to catch the morning crossing to Dublin, arriving around midday. We head west to Roscrea, one of the oldest towns in Ireland which built up around the ancient monastery of Saint Crónán of Roscrea, parts of which remain preserved today. Here we have time for lunch (not included). We continue to Ennistymon and the Falls Hotel, our base for the next four nights. Tonight, we have an included glass of wine with dinner as a welcome drink.

Day 3 Today we explore northern County Clare and visit the Burren Visitor’s Centre in Kilfenora for an introduction to the area. This large limestone cap is an anomaly in the Irish landscape and is home to all manner of flora and fauna, including rare Mediterranean plants. The afternoon is spent in Galway City where you can explore the maze of narrow streets at the city’s heart, visit the cathedral or museum, relax in one of the many lovely cafés, or watch the salmon fishermen on the River Corrib.

Day 4 A treat lies in store today with a cruise beneath the mighty Cliffs of Moher. These towering cliffs stretch for 8 kilometres and have become a national icon, home to thriving seabird colonies and visited by seals, porpoises and even basking sharks! We stay in Doolin for lunch, known as the music capital of Ireland, and this afternoon spot the Aran Islands as you follow the dramatic coastal route around Black Head and Ballyvaughan Bay before returning to Ennistymon via Lisdoonvarna.

Day 5 After breakfast, we travel south via Lahinch to the heritage town of Kilrush, and take the 25-minute ferry journey from nearby Killimer across the Shannon Estuary to Tarbert in the Kingdom of Kerry. From here it’s just a short journey to the Foynes Flying Boat Museum, which provides a fascinating insight into the 1930s and ‘40s when the first commercial transatlantic passenger flights took place. In 1942, the chef at Foynes airbase served whiskey in his coffees to help revitalise a group of weary passengers delayed by bad weather – and Irish Coffee was born! Enjoy a guided tour of the museum, which includes a full-size replica of the magnificent Boeing B314, the quintessential Clipper Flying Boat, and taste a little Irish Coffee. If time allows we will stop at Adare, considered to be Ireland’s prettiest village, before returning via Limerick and Ennis to Ennistymon and our hotel.

Day 6 We retrace our steps south via Limerick and continue eastwards, with a stop in the pretty heritage town of Cahir in County Tipperary over lunchtime. We continue to Wexford and our overnight hotel.

Day 7 A short drive takes us to Rosslare to board our morning ferry to Fishguard. We travel across Southern Wales and into England reaching the local area in the evening.
