Itinerary

Day 1 We travel west, making suitable refreshment stops along the way and reaching our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2 We travel up to the North Cornish Coast and visit St Ives, one of Cornwall’s best loved resorts with cobbled streets, historic harbour and glorious light. Enjoy some free time as well as a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden, where most of the wonderful bronzes are in the positions in which the artist herself placed them. We also visit the excellent Tate Gallery St Ives. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the museum showcases work by artists including Barbara Hepworth, Marlow Moss, Naum Gabo and Patrick Heron, alongside displays from the Tate collection, presenting modern and contemporary art from around the world.

Day 3 This morning we visit Truro, the capital of Cornwall. Situated on the River Fal, with gothic architecture and paved streets, the city is a wonderful place to explore and enjoy some lunch in one of the many cafés and restaurants. We return to Falmouth for a 2-hour pleasure cruise through the rugged landscape and the scenic waters of the Helford River & Frenchmans Creek.* This evening enjoy a short talk about Cornish Art.

Day 4 A free day to explore Falmouth, a charming coastal town shaped and influenced by its strong connections with the sea, combining a fascinating maritime heritage with modern creativity. Stroll along the harbour, visit the renowned National Maritime Museum (entrance not included), walk down to Pendennis Head for views of the castle and the coast, or just relax in one of the many cafés in the town.

Day 5 Travel across the Fal Estuary by ferry to St Mawes, the pretty fishing village nestled at the end of the Roseland Peninsula, for free time to explore the picturesque harbour. Then meet our coach for the drive up the peninsula to Trelissick Garden, which boasts a huge array of plant species, a woodland garden with formal lawns, herbaceous borders, and stunning views over the River Fal.

Day 6 We return home via Dorchester, Dorset’s county town with fantastic Georgian architecture in the picturesque centre. We continue homewards, arriving in the local area late afternoon.
