Delve into Brontë Country with a visit to Haworth, take a journey into the past by steam train and visit the fine houses of Brodsworth Hall and Harewood House.
Day 1 After picking you up from your door, we travel north via Leicester to reach our hotel in the small town of Tankersley, south of Barnsley. A welcome drink will be served before dinner for a chance to meet your fellow guests.
Day 2 After a leisurely breakfast, we visit Brodsworth Hall, a beautiful Victorian country house, with 130 years of family life on show. Life ‘below stairs’ is on view in the servants’ wing and the house is surrounded by restored grand gardens in miniature. In the afternoon we head for the centre of Doncaster, to enjoy tea and cake in the Georgian Tearoom.
Day 3 We travel into Brontë Country today to the village of Haworth, nestled on the edge of the West Yorkshire moorlands. There is a chance to have lunch and visit the shops along the steep cobbled main street and to see the Brontë Parsonage Museum. We complete our day with a return journey on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast, we travel north to Harewood House, one of the Treasure Houses of England, set in the heart of rural Yorkshire. Rolling ‘Capability’ Brown landscapes, an impressive art collection including works by JMW Turner and El Greco, renaissance masterpieces, exquisite Thomas Chippendale furniture and fabulous Robert Adam interiors, are all combined with 100 acres of award-winning Gardens and a renowned lakeside Bird Garden. We have an included one-hour introductory house tour, and plenty of free time to explore the grounds and get some lunch.
Day 5 We make our way south stopping at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire for lunch (not included). We continue into our local area, to meet our taxis and travel home.
