A delightful new holiday which combines the history and gentle scenery of Lincolnshire, the rolling landscape of the Yorkshire Dales and the dramatic beauty of the Western Lake District. Your Mountain Goat tour takes you to the steepest mountain passes in England, and visits the quieter, lesser known areas of this gorgeous national park.
Day 1 After being picked up from your door by taxi, you join our touring coach and we travel northwards, stopping in St Albans before continuing to our hotel in Marston, for a three-night stay.
Day 2 We drive to Lincoln where we meet our guide for a short guided tour by coach to discover some of the landmarks and history of the city. Then enjoy some free time to explore the old town with its labyrinth of little alleyways, interesting shops and delightful cafés. In the afternoon we visit Lincoln Cathedral for a guided tour. The Cathedral was a sign on the horizon to crews returning to Lincolnshire RAF bases that they had made it home safely.
Day 3 This morning we visit magnificent Burghley House, home to the Cecil family and surrounded by spectacular ‘Capability’ Brown designed parkland. Our afternoon is spent in the historic town of Stamford, one of the finest Georgian towns in England.
Day 4 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel north by motorway, and after Leeds turn west past Otley and Ilkley and on to Skipton, Gateway to the Dales. We will have time to explore, shop and get some lunch in this pretty market town. In the afternoon we drive into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, passing Settle and Ingleton before dropping down to the coast, Morecambe Bay and our hotel for the next four nights.
Day 5 A free day to relax and enjoy Morecambe.
Day 6 We return through the scenic Lune Valley to the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We climb into the Pennines, passing the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, and continuing to the magical little market town of Hawes. We visit the Wensleydale Creamery, home of Yorkshire’s world-famous cheese, before returning to our hotel.
Day 7 Today we join the ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses for an adventure into the mountains, on roads where our large coaches cannot go. A wonderful day taking in the passes of the Western Fells – Wrynose Pass, the desolate Duddon Valley and the awesome Hardknott Pass. See the lonely Roman fort as we descend into Eskdale for a ride on ‘L’al Ratty’, the Ravensglass & Eskdale Railway. We visit Muncaster Castle Garden and Owl Sanctuary before returning to our hotel over the Southern Fells.
Day 8 Departing after breakfast, we travel southwards making suitable refreshment stops along the way and arrive in the local area late afternoon.
