Spend time in York’s magnificent Minster, visit some of the multitude of museums, stroll through the narrow streets and little alleyways that make the city of York such a pleasure to explore. We also include a steam train ride across the dramatic North York Moors, a visit to Castle Howard and a cruise through the city on the River Ouse.
Day 1 After a morning pick up from your home by taxi, our coach travels northwards with suitable refreshment stops, reaching our hotel in the centre of York late afternoon.
Day 2 We are joined by a guide this morning for a comprehensive sightseeing tour of the city by coach and on foot, and in the afternoon we enjoy a cruise on the River Ouse.
Day 3 A spectacular scenic tour through the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. First to Pickering to board the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a journey across the moors to the historic port of Whitby, with its ruined abbey atop the cliff overlooking the busy harbour. After some free time, we return across Blakey Ridge, via Hutton-le-Hole to Helmsley where we have a short break before returning to the hotel.
Day 4 A free morning to further explore. You might like to visit the Jorvik Centre, the National Railway Museum, walk the city walls, or just stroll through the Snickelways and along the Shambles. In the afternoon we visit delightful Castle Howard, dating from 1699 and undoubtedly one of Britain’s finest private residences. We have time to explore the house and the lovely grounds.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel via the Dartford Crossing to the local area, making suitable refreshment stops along the way. We reach our taxis early evening.
