Our gorgeous hotel is a very short walk from the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre in Haytor and offers good opportunities for you to experience the fascinating past, imposing geological features and wildlife of the area, while being within easy reach of the Devon coast.
Day 1 After your taxi pick up, we make our way west and visit Bennett’s Water Gardens, where 8 acres of gardens are home to outstanding displays of water lilies. We continue to our hotel on the edge of Dartmoor.
Day 2 We have a full day on Dartmoor today with a knowledgeable local guide. Discover the history and folklore of the area as we visit Princetown, Tavistock and Dartmeet. In the afternoon we enjoy a cream tea.
Day 3 Today we visit Buckfast Abbey, home to a community of Benedictine Monks, with beautiful gardens and plenty to explore. We continue to Buckfastleigh to board our train for a return journey on the South Devon Steam Railway which hugs the River Dart on its journey to Totnes.
Day 4 We visit the old fishing village of Brixham, home to a full-sized replica of the Golden Hind. We continue to Torquay, for free time to explore the town’s many attractions.
Day 5 We depart after breakfast and stop in Salisbury with time for lunch and shopping. We then continue homewards to meet our taxis.
Our four-star hotel has 11 acres of landscaped grounds, paddocks and woodland, and wild ponies are often found grazing nearby on the open expanse of the moors. Beautifully refurbished, the hotel’s previous guests include Agatha Christie and Ava Gardner. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, safe, mini fridge, ironing facilities, hairdryer and hospitality tray. A lift serves most rooms.
