Enjoy huge carpets of bluebells, birdsong and wildflowers in the magnificent Big Wood at Arley Hall, which also has a wonderful Antique Fair on the day of our visit. We also explore the gardens at Ness, visit Jodrell Bank, the Anderton Boat Lift and Chester.
Day 1 After your taxi picks you up, we travel north into Cheshire, making stops along the way and arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 This morning we travel onto the Wirral Peninsula and the awardwinning Ness Botanic Gardens. Founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley, a local cotton merchant with a passion for gardening and plant collecting. We spend our afternoon in charming Chester, with time at leisure to explore its historic streets and city walls.
Day 3 A wonderful day at Arley Hall, one of the most interesting and attractive stately homes in the North West. The Hall is taken over today by the Antiques Fair, which showcases jewellery, paintings, porcelain, books, rugs, clocks, home décor, clothing, beauty products, gourmet treats and more! We have also included entrance to the gardens and our day is completed with a delightful 90-minute guided walk through the Hall’s woodlands, with ample chance to enjoy the bluebell displays.
Day 4 A day of discovery beginning at Anderton for a cruise including the famous boatlift, which was built in 1875 and provides a 50ft vertical link between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal. Then on to Jodrell Bank, to see the Lovell Telescope and the ground-breaking work that takes place here, and explore the extensive gardens and arboretum.
Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we travel south with a stop in Stratfordupon-Avon over lunch. We reach the local area early evening.
