We return to Cardiff and the wonderful Royal Mint, and explore the lives of those who lived in castles, great houses and those who worked the land.
Day 1 Leaving the local area with our door to door service, we travel via Malmesbury and then continue across the Severn Estuary to our hotel.
Day 2 This morning we are joined by a local guide for a short driven tour around the city. Then at Cardiff Castle we discover over 2000 years of history, from Roman fort to Norman stronghold to Victorian Gothic fairytale palace! We have included a special tour which includes the Winter Smoking Room, Nursery, Sitting Room, Lord Bute’s Bedroom and the Rooftop Garden. Most of the castle is accessible with some steps, but some areas will not be suitable for the less mobile. The rest of the day is free in Cardiff.
Day 3 Today we visit the Royal Mint, where you can see fine craftsmanship combine with cutting edge techniques to make coins and medals for over 60 countries. This afternoon visit St Fagan’s Open Air Museum, where more than 50 buildings are frozen in time.
Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast, we travel the short distance to Tredegar House, situated within 90 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland. For more than 500 years it was home to one of the greatest Welsh families and the interiors show the opulence of their lives through the years. The rest of the day is free in Cardiff.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after a leisurely breakfast, we cross into England and on to Lacock for lunch. Dating back to the 13th Century, the village is owned and managed by the National Trust and is often used as a location for film and TV. We arrive home late afternoon.
Our three-star hotel is a wonderful Victorian landmark occupying an amazing location near Cardiff Castle and the city centre. There are traditional lounge areas, dining room and bar, and the individually styled bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel has a lift to all floors.
