We return to Cardiff and the wonderful Royal Mint, and have also included a guided tour of the city, an insight into life at Cardiff Castle and a journey into the Brecon Beacons on one of the Great Little Trains of Wales.
Day 1 Leaving the local area with our door to door service, we travel via Malmesbury and then continue across the Severn Estuary to our hotel
Day 2 This morning we are joined by a local guide for a short driven tour around the city. Then at Cardiﬀ Castle we discover over 2000 years of history, from Roman fort to Norman stronghold to Victorian Gothic fairytale palace! We have included a special tour which includes the Winter Smoking Room, Nursery, Sitting Room, Lord Bute’s Bedroom and the Rooftop Garden. Most of the castle is accessible with few steps, but some areas will not be suitable for the less mobile. The rest of the day is free in Cardiﬀ.
Day 3 Today we visit the remarkable Royal Mint, where you can see ﬁne craftsmanship combine with cutting edge techniques to make coins and medals for over 60 countries. We enjoy a tour of the factory and have access to the fascinating exhibition. The afternoon is free in Cardiﬀ.
Day 4 An excursion to the foothills of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Big Pit Mining Museum. After some free time, we continue to the Brecon Mountain Railway, for a return journey through Pontsticill, along the length of Taf Fechan Reservoir and climbing high into the Beacons.
Day 5 Leaving our hotel after a leisurely breakfast, we cross into England and on to Lacock for lunch. Dating back to the 13th Century, the village is owned and managed by the National Trust and is often used as a location for ﬁlm and TV. We arrive home late afternoon.
Our three-star hotel is a wonderful Victorian landmark occupying an amazing location near Cardiﬀ Castle and the city centre. There are traditional lounge areas, dining room and bar, and the individually styled bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, hairdryer and hospitality tray. The hotel has a lift to all ﬂoors.
