We visit Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex for our new Autumn tour! Based at the Holiday Inn Cambridge this tour visits Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Ely and some rural Essex villages and countryside.
Day 1 We travel north via the Dartford Crossing to Saffron Walden, where there will be time to have lunch and sightseeing before we continue to our hotel, arriving mid-afternoon to be greeted with tea & biscuits. There will be a welcome drink before dinner for a chance to meet your fellow guests.
Day 2 After a leisurely breakfast we spend a delightful day touring around Essex. Our route takes us past Saffron Walden to Thaxted, with its famous Guildhall and restored windmill set against a backdrop of medieval houses. Idyllic Finchingfield is a picture-postcard Essex village, complete with village pond, redbrick cottages and several tea rooms and cafés. We take a break here before returning to our hotel.
Day 3 Our first stop today is in the city of Ely. Here you have chance to visit the magnificent Cathedral or take a stroll around the town. From Ely we head for Bury St Edmunds where it is market day, or explore the famous Abbey gardens, connections with Dickens and The Nutshell, reputedly the smallest pub in the country.
Day 4 This morning we are off to Cambridge. The city has many fascinating attractions, not least of which are the many colleges. We meet our guide for a tour of Cambridge ending with a visit to the American Cemetery. We then have a chance to explore the city at leisure and obtain lunch before we head back to our hotel for a cream tea.
Day 5 After breakfast, we make our way south, making stops for lunch and refreshments, reaching our taxis late afternoon.
Our four-star hotel nestles in rolling countryside just 2 miles from central Cambridge and offers a bar, lounge and restaurant. Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, gym and beauty treatment rooms. Bedrooms have TV, telephone, WiFi, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities.
