We stop in Lewes with Its medieval streets, old English churches and tiny twittens. This market town of small, specialist, independent retailers, where bookshops, boutiques and antique centres sit alongside many restaurants, cafés, and pubs offering many delicious choices.
We continue to Bateman’s, home of author Rudyard Kipling. The rooms are much as he left them - artifacts from his Eastern adventures, a book lined study, his Nobel Prize certificate, a phonograph playing music and his Rolls Royce in the garage. There is a beautiful garden, tearoom and gift shop.
For National Trust members the cost is £34.00. You must present your card on the day.
